March 1, 2010 - SpectraWatt, Inc., the new manufacturer of photovoltaic cells used by solar module suppliers, has officially begun operations in the former IBM building 334 in East Fishkill, New York at the Hudson Valley Research Park. SpectraWatt now occupies 142,000 sf of space. SpectraWatt is expected to invest up to $81 million and anticipates creating at least 150 new jobs in the next two years. Initial capacity is 60MWp with future expansion up to 200MWp. The line is being tested at this time.
The Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation has spent the last several months coordinating incentives, detailing labor data, hosting site tours, and meeting with SpectraWatt officials along with County Executive Steinhaus and other officials. In other News IBM has begun setting up the tooling in their building 323 Annex. The 325,000 sf addition was completed in 2009. Building 323 and the Annex totals 1,000,000 sf now. Production of the next generation of 300mm wafers should begin soon.

There is now a loan fund for Dutchess County businesses that are planning upgrades and improvements that will reduce their energy consumption and/or for utilizing alternative energy.
